Saturday MARCH 5th 2011 - The Ice Age Cometh !
A new territory to discover by using the Robin Hood Line linking Worksop with Mansfield and Nottingham. The devastating closure of local collieries in this area led to the reintroduction of passenger services in the 1990s as economic regeneration began.
The line has been a great success. We’ll visit Creswell Crags which is one of our most important heritage sites created during the last Ice Age
a dramatic limestone gorge tucked away in the gently undulating landscape. Then continue our way along public footpaths through Manorial grounds
on our approach to Worksop as the Mallard Inn beckons! No dogs please.

A walk which takes us over a restored colliery site now a community woodland.
This is a remote countryside little visited by rambling groups although it is surprisingly close to the urban sprawl. A Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve lies in the shadow of cooling towers which are at the centre of controversy. Ings are low lying marshy areas on the flood plain of the Don and crossing these sees us into the centre of town.
